How we check the information
- Every fact on this site links to its source: the NHS, the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, national charities, government guidance, or published research.
- We open and read each source before using it, and write the date we checked it.
- We do not add our own opinions or guesses. If the sources disagree, we say so.
- The full list is on the Sources page.
What this guide is not
It is not medical advice and it does not diagnose. Only a qualified professional who meets your child can tell you what is going on. If you are worried, please talk to your health visitor, GP or local speech and language therapy service.
The guide has not yet been reviewed by a registered speech and language therapist. We plan to ask one to review it, and we will say so here when that has happened.
Coming soon: our app
We're developing an app to help with children's communication, using the same sources as this guide. It will be available here soon.
